What is Somatic Bodywork?

Somatic bodywork refers to a therapeutic practice that focuses on the connection between the body and mind, aiming to release physical tension, trauma, and emotional blockages through hands-on techniques and mindful awareness. It often involves working with the body's sensations, posture, and movements to facilitate healing and restore balance. The term "somatic" comes from the word soma, which means "body." Somatic bodywork practices can include techniques like massage, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, or even specific movements designed to help the individual become more aware of their physical sensations and emotional responses. By focusing on the body’s inherent wisdom and its responses, somatic bodywork aims to help clients heal from both physical discomfort and emotional stress, often addressing chronic pain, trauma, anxiety, and other issues. It encourages the body to release stored tension and emotions, creating space for deeper relaxation, better movement, and overall well-being.
